Take Care of Yourself
Your smile is the very first thing that people notice about you - your first impression. A smile, however, is much more than just part of your appearance - unlike your hairstyle or sense of fashion, keeping your smile healthy is also important to your overall health.
Maintaining Your Oral Health
Current research continues to reveal the extent to which bacteria that cause gum disease and oral infections are linked to diabetes, heart disease, strokes and pre-term and low birth weight babies. Regular visits to the dentist have been proven to help prevent dental decay and gum disease.
Early detection helps minimize treatment and avoid emergencies.
It’s not just a cleaning... Don’t underestimate your preventive visit with your hygienist! This visit is important to maintain proper oral health. We recommend that our patients visit our office every 3-6 months for routine dental maintenance procedures and oral health assessment.
At each recare visit, Dr. Galbo will perform an oral cancer screening and dental examination to evaluate the condition of your teeth, jaw joints and gums to look for signs of decay, disease, infection or periodontal (gum) disease. We may recommend fluoride treatments or dental sealants for your child to help prevent tooth decay.
In addition to regular visits to the dentist, our recommended oral hygiene regimen includes:
Home Care - We recommend that our patients brush and floss their teeth at least twice a day. It is especially important to thoroughly clean the teeth, gums and tongue prior to bedtime to reduce the bacteria levels in the mouth and minimize harmful bacterial activity as much as possible while you sleep.
Oral Health Nutrition - A balanced diet based on the five food groups is also good for healthy teeth and gums. Read more about healthy eating at the NIH National Institutes of Health web site.
